that as many as five pillars and innovation centers will be built in new city Meikarta,
namely innovative infrastructure and transportation, high-tech CBD and research
club, business and commercial hub, green suitable living, and center for the
arts, culture, and education.
Lippo expected that Meikarta will grow along with the
realization of the government’s plan to make the
Jakarta-Bekasi-Cikarang-Bandung corridor as the Shenzen
of Indonesia. In addition, a number of public transportations
and infrastructures will be built in the housing complex for
its residents.
“There will be Jakarta-Bandung high-speed trains,

elevated highway,” the company said in a press release on Thursday, May 4,
2017.
Lippo offers property products in Meikarta area
available for Rp12.5 million per square meter, as well as house or apartment
mortgages that will mature in 25 years with an interest rate of 8.25 percent.
The company also pitches a booking fee facility of Rp2
million with a down payment of 10 percent of the product price. Lippo is
confident that Meikarta will become a profitable investment in Southeast Asia.
Lippo
Group CEO James Riady said that the development of the new city
was supported by global investment partners, namely Mitsubishi, Toyota, and
Sanko Soflan. The new city in Cikarang, James added, is located at the heart of
the national economy in the Jakarta-Bandung corridor.
James added that 60 percent of the national economic
activities are concentrated in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi and Bandung.
James predicted that the population in Bekasi and Cikarang could grow to 20
million people.
“It means the national economy will be centered here,”
he said.
The first stage of its development is aimed at
erecting 400,000 houses with a capacity of more than 2 million people. James
added that the first stage development of Meikarta with a total size of 28
million square meters had been prepared since 2014.
The construction was commenced in 2016 that resulted
in 200 buildings, each consisting of 35-46 floors. The project is expected to
employ 85,000 workers.
“When the new city is completed, it is expected to
absorb 6 million-8 million workers,” James added.
James hopes that Meikarta will help to ease the
pressures posed by traffic jams, congestions, and other social issues in
Jakarta. Currently, the land price in the Bekasi-Cikarang corridor is between
Rp18 million and Rp20 million per square meter.
